Customers are greeted by a clean, white pedestal with a nicesmelling
hand cleanser, and grand fixtures create different
shopping spots that allow for social distancing.
People gravitate to the back of the store in part due to the
different types of merchandise but also the intimacy created
by the lower ceiling. The merchandising style is deliberately
relaxed with lots of angles, encouraging people to pick
things up without worrying about making a mess.
This huge blue shape defines the wall and gives strong
contrast to lighter-colored merchandise. It connects the
wall fixtures visually, and the blue is repeated in the far
back room on the ceiling and on a ladder fixture. Its shape
matches the hanging foam core fixture above the cash wrap.
A stack of blank wish lists on a clipboard with a pen encourage
customers to write their name, the date, contact info and a
bulleted list of what they’d like for any occasion. These small
clipboards are all over the store and are a smart addition not
just during the fourth-quarter holidays but year-round.
JP General’s window display, just before Thanksgiving 2020,
featured huge snowflakes that slowly turned, stopping
people and cars as they went past the store. Each snowflake
rotated toward the front door, leading people into the store.
This display can morph perfectly into early winter with a
regular merchandise refresh.
